In this session, I will describe my goals for using standards based grading in my algebra and geometry classes. These include supporting growth mindset, promoting meta-cognition and eliciting motivation with the "gamified" aspect of SBG. I will discuss typical pitfalls, how I work it, and how I am able to give letter grades when it comes time for report cards. I will spend much of the session discussing how to support a standards based classroom with formative assessment.
